Tell Us What You Think
(2005 - ongoing)
Tell Us What You Think will create dialogue
through traveling workbooks, a website, and community
events. Artists and non-artists will find and make art
together in public spaces at no monetary cost. The
workbooks will be released throughout the world to
gather writing from people about social issues, the
process of collaboration, and the subject of public
art. We will highlight the everyday practice of
creative action as a force for social change.
Our readers are everybody: public school students,
immigrants, workers, parents, you. We will distribute
free copies of the workbooks to them locally,
nationally, and internationally in public spaces
(subway station, shopping mall, health clinic, etc).
After finding a workbook, readers will respond to
prompts and then leave their copies in new public
spaces for others to find. We anticipate the
publication being released in 2008 with an initial
print run of 3,000 – 5,000 copies. For documenting
purposes, each workbook will have an edition number
and the address of the AGS website.
The entire workbook will be available as a free
download on the AGS website. Our site will also have
a world map to track the journey of individual
workbooks, an open message board, and links to other
resources around both public art and the social issues
covered in the workbooks. Sparking new public art and
collaborations, AGS will organize free community Show
& Tell events. People will be invited to share their
responses from the workbooks and display their own
creative work.
